UWM College Engineering & Applied Science: 3 college teams named finalists in Foxconn competition

Four UWM entries, including three from the College of Engineering & Applied Science, are among the 30 projects that have advanced to the final round of the “Smart Cities-Smart Futures” competition, sponsored by Foxconn.

Congratulations to the following team leaders, team members and faculty advisors—nine in all—who constitute the college’s three teams.  

Zihao Jin, PhD candidate, civil engineering, one of four to advance in the internet of things category. Faculty advisor and team member: Jie Yu, assistant professor of civil & environmental engineering. Other team members: Zhong Liu, graduate student, civil engineering; Shamsi Trisha, graduate student, civil & environmental engineering.

Mohammad Rizwen Ur Rahman, graduate student, mechanical engineering, one of five to advance in the energy and environment category. Faculty advisor: Woo-Jin Chang, associate professor, mechanical engineering and biomedical engineering.

Jie Yu, one of seven to advance in the mobility and transportation category. Team members: John December (’91 MS Computer Science); Dahai Han, graduate student, civil engineering; Weijie Tan, graduate student, civil engineering.

The Round 2 winners receive $1,500 awards and have a chance to earn $5,000 more if they are chosen in Round 3, which will be announced later in the spring.
