Foxconn has launched the 2019 Smart Cities – Smart Futures Competition! Individuals and teams will compete for financial awards, technical support, and in-kind contributions to further develop and possibly implement their proposals, thus building smarter living and working spaces across Wisconsin. Last year, Foxconn committed up to $1 million over three years to this broad initiative.
The ideas submitted to this competition will help improve and enhance living and working environments, manufacturing facilities and processes, promote attractive streetscapes, transportation networks, living spaces, and overall sustainability.
The Smart Cities-Smart Futures Competition starts now! The official 1st round submission window opens September 9, 2019, and runs through October 23, 2019. From there, up to 100 submission finalists will be chosen and invited to further develop their ideas in round two of the competition. The second round of Smart Cities - Smart Futures opens November 14, 2019, and will be open for submissions through December 7, 2019.
All idea submissions are required to be from Wisconsin-based higher education institutions, including the University of Wisconsin System, the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU), and the Wisconsin Technical College System. We welcome all student, staff, and faculty to get involved! You can submit your idea as a team or as an individual.
Submitting an idea to the competition is as easy as 1-2-3. Simply click the "Submit Your Idea" button on our website and complete the online registration form. From there you will be provided instructions and given details to the progress of the competition. Good luck!
Have a concept that you think could be the next big idea? The Smart Cities - Smart Futures contest is open to new and creative technology-based ideas to help build a “smart future”. New idea categories include mobility, energy, building, safety, healthcare, agri-tech, and manufacturing industries in Wisconsin.
Visit our website and click the “Submit Idea” button. Complete the online submission form and create an account on Reviewr®. Idea submissions will include essays, examples, videos, and other supporting documents. Once you have successfully submitted your idea, you will want to get to work fine-tuning the “build-out” of your concept. We encourage you and your team to collaborate with peers and the help of your college professors for resources.
After the submission period ends, each of the ideas will be reviewed by our panel of judges over two separate rounds. Contest ideas will be judged on innovation, creativity, impact, and execution. Contest finalists will be awarded cash prizes, major recognition, potential for investment, and career opportunities.
