Criteria & Evaluation

Smart Cities - Smart Futures submissions will be required to meet specific criteria in order to qualify for the competition. The criteria details and requirements will vary in each round. The competition submissions will be reviewed in detail, compared, and judged by industry-leading professionals, so make sure your ideas are impressive!

What are the criteria?

Round 1 Criteria

In Round 1, Contestants will be asked to submit a short essay and video outlining their concept.  Please use the following guidelines to shape your two deliverables.

Essay : 300-600 words

  • General Description + Name of Concept
  • Why is it needed?
  • Who will it help?
  • What value does it bring?
  • How is it unique?
  • What are the risks associated with your concept?

Video : Up to 2 minutes:

  • Name or Team Name
  • School
  • What year are you in school?
  • Submission Category Selected
  • Name of your Concept
  • General Description.  (What is it, how does it work?)
  • How is your concept Innovative
  • Why did you decide to submit this concept to #SCSF?

Round 2 Criteria

  1. Business Model Canvas: Use your SCORE mentor to assist with filling out the Business Model Canvas
  1. Written Explanation: Use up to 1000 words to explain the following, use your SCORE mentor for assistance with this portion as well.  (More detail on this in Reviewr Portal)
    1. Usefulness, Relevance, and Impact
    2. Market Assessment
    3. Financial Assessment
    4. Positioning
    5. Risk
  1. Pitch Video: GET CREATIVE!! Use your resources on campus to create a compelling and visually pleasing “Pitch” Video on WHY your idea is needed.  Think “Shark Tank.”  Your video will be evaluated on the following:
      1. Is it believable / real?
      2. Are you passionate about the topic?
      3. Are you knowledgeable on the topic?
      4. Did they “paint the picture”
      5. Is this idea better than others like it?

The evaluation criteria for each Round will also be indicated in the submission portal.  The link to the submission portal will be available on this site at the start of each submission period.

Who will the judges be?

Foxconn® has identified professional, academic, industry, and government leaders to review and evaluate Smart Cities - Smart Futures idea submissions. All competition submissions will be evaluated on multiple points.

Smart Cities - Smart Futures judges will remain impartial and at a discreet distance from the participating teams during the competition.

Your confidentiality is of the utmost importance to our team and submissions will be reviewed in private without 3rd party influence.

How is my idea judged?

  • Implementation
  • Impact
  • Execution
  • Uniqueness
  • Creativity
